Strengthen the operations and financial management of a growing fiscal sponsor

Inspired by elephants who give birth within a circle of support, Elephant Circle envisions a world where all people have a circle of support for the entire perinatal period. Birth justice occurs when everyone is equally capable of self-determination during the perinatal period and their self-determination is supported and amplified. To achieve this, we will need both the HOW and the WHAT of birth justice. We will need strategies for tackling systems of power and oppression and we will need strategies for change and resilience. We will also need expertise in health systems, legal systems and the perinatal period. This is how Elephant Circle approaches this work.

Elephant Circle experienced significant growth over the past few years, and was looking to strengthen its operating infrastructure, particularly its financial management structures, in its support to its fiscally sponsored projects.

The Ops Collective Helped Elephant Circle By:

  • Evaluating the HR structure to determine whether a PEO would be a more efficient or sustainable option for Elephant Circle. Producing recommendations on next steps with regards to Elephant Circle’s current PEO.

  • Provided recruitment support in hiring a Director of Resource Management and Operations who now manages the fiscal sponsorship practice. This support included providing resources for the hiring process, participating in interviews, supporting the onboarding process.

  • Evaluating and assessing the organization’s financial management infrastructure, and fiscal sponsorship services, to be able to make recommendations on how to improve internal financial management, and services to fiscally sponsored projects.
