Why FAN Decided To Collaborate With The Ops Collective
Florida Access Network (FAN) is dedicated to access, justice, and radical self-love for all Floridians. They believe that Floridians shouldn’t have barriers to safe and legal abortions and sexual health, regardless of how the state votes politically. However, as a result of a changing political landscape, the organization found itself constantly reassessing their programmatic work, while ensuring they were able to scale their operations alongside a growing budget thanks to an influx of donations.
FAN needed some interim operational support, as they recruited for a full-time Director of Operations. They were looking for additional capacity across the full spectrum of operations - HR, finance, people operations, development of policies and procedures, and compliance - until the new hire was onboarded.
The Ops Collective Helped FAN By:
Conducting an operational assessment of FAN to ground their strategic plans, governance, and decision making structures and developing an operations work plan that reflects the revamped systems.
Developing internal finance policies and working with FAN’s bookkeepers to finalize an organizational budget.
Interviewing all staff on their roles and responsibilities, aiming to ensure that staff’s job descriptions were in line with their current work and organizational needs.
Conducting a full revamp to the FAN employee handbook.
Supporting FAN in recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of a Director of Operations and Executive Assistant.
Making recommendations and supporting the RFP process for auditors.
Outcomes Of Our Work Together - Set Their New Operations Hire Up for Success
Successfully supported the recruitment and hiring of the organization’s first Director of Operations and Executive Assistant.
Aided the organization through a period of change by supporting the Executive Director in day-to-day operations, inbox tracking, and expense tracking.
Created educational materials for the FAN team to compliantly participate in lobbying activities in Florida.
Created valuable policies around finance, hiring, onboarding/offboarding, technology, and the advisory board given their increasingly scrutinized mission.
Built out a fiscal year budget for the organization and supported their acquisition of corporate credit cards to further streamline business expenses.
Supported FAN legal counsel in completion of their Application for Recognition of Exemption and 501(c)(3) status.
